COMPANY OF THE YEAR

INNOVATIVE RENTOKIL WINS COMPANY OF THE YEAR

Rentokil Pest Control is one of the most innovative companies in the UK according to The Society of Food Hygiene Technology (SOFHT). The world’s largest pest control business has just won the Society’s inaugural Company of the Year Award. It was presented in recognition of its groundbreaking initiative to take toxins out of the 21st century.

The judges were impressed by Rentokil’s commitment to developing pest control techniques that help to improve standards of food hygiene in all sectors, from retail and catering to food processing and manufacturing.

The company has spent the last four years developing ‘Zero Option’, a range of non-toxic pest control services that improves the detection of pests and ensures that they are contained or eradicated. The Zero Option service constantly monitors for and eliminates the risk of pests contaminating food, but presents no risk of product contamination itself.

The Company of the Year Award was presented to the managing director of Rentokil Pest Control, David Howroyd, at SOFHT’s 25th annual luncheon, held on November 18 in London. Mr Howroyd said: "When it comes to food hygiene you cannot take any risks, which is why we have developed pest monitoring devices such as RADAR. It can tell the customer and us immediately when a mouse had been detected - it also despatches the rodent humanely using Carbon Dioxide.

"Having won this award, will not rest on our laurels. Next year will be very exciting for us as we plan to launch a new generation of 21st century pest control services. Our aim is to become the first pest control company that can provide effective non-toxic services that detect and kill all pests. It is a challenging target but one we are confident of reaching."
