Rentokil Initial supports the Commonwealth Heads of State commitment to halve the cases of Malaria by 2023

25 Apr 2018

Rentokil Initial plc welcomes the Commonwealth Heads of State commitment to halve the number of cases of Malaria in the Commonwealth by 2023. If delivered, 650,000 lives will be saved and 350 million cases of Malaria prevented. The Company also congratulates the #MalariaMustDie campaign and the charity Malaria No More UK on their vital role played in building awareness about this important public health topic.

In order to achieve this ambitious target, vector control companies have a pivotal role to play (mosquito monitoring, analysis and control). Rentokil Initial, which operates in over half of the Commonwealth’s countries and has global expertise in vector control, is committed to play its part in the achievement of this target. It is establishing a new global Centre of Excellence for Vector Management to develop industry best practices and to work with suppliers to ensure that the most effective vector control solutions become available to the market.

For the last 8 years, Rentokil Initial colleagues around the world have undertaken a series of local events to support Malaria No More UK - raising over £180,000 to date. The charity was at the centre of the #MalariaMustDie campaign and the subsequent commitment by the Commonwealth to halve the number of cases of Malaria.

Andy Ransom, CEO of Rentokil Initial plc, said:

“The humanitarian case to eradicate Malaria is compelling. The economic case to do so is overwhelming. I’m proud of the commitment our colleagues have made to support this important public health campaign and we will be supporting Malaria No More UK every step of the journey to 2023.”

James Whiting, Executive Director of Malaria No More UK, said:

“53 countries have made a historic commitment to halving malaria within five years. Rentokil Initial gave critical support to Malaria No More UK in inspiring this commitment. The company’s know-how and the energy of its colleagues now represent the best of private sector ingenuity and determination to ensure the commitment is delivered.”

Today, Wednesday 25 April 2018, marks World Malaria Day, a World Health Organisation campaign.
